Super Paper Mario preview

The Paper Mario series is one of Mario's finest, and with 2 successful games, a third game was in sight. It came to no surprise to any Paper Mario fan when Super Paper Mario was announced at E3 2006. However, the game itself has come into question with fans.

RPG? Platformer? Or both? We don't really know. The entire Paper Mario series has been part of the incredibly successful Mario RPG series - there seems to be no reason to change a working formula for success. Yet, most of the screenshots lead us to believe that Super Paper Mario will be a platformer. The screenshots released by Nintendo all indicate that this game will have side-scrolling, platformer elements, but we're told it will include RPG elements.

But when you take a look back to the GCN smash-hit Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it may come to no surprise. Throughout the game, there are mini-levels that are platformers that look incredibly similar to the screenshots we have now. They could be taking these mini-levels and turning them into a complete game.

Another thing that remains a mystery is the presence of Bowser and Peach. It's been said that they'll be playable characters, but how? Will each have a different storyline, or will they all be on the same side with just the option to switch between them? If this is the case, then who's the main enemy except Bowser?

A lot of questions remain present about Super Paper Mario. And that's probably a good thing - many fans, including myself, will remain anxious about this game and wonder how the new adventure will unfold. Hopefully, Nintendo can keep up the great success of the previous 2 Paper Mario games.
